Matt Mullenweg introduced Akismet just a few days back. It’s a comment-spam defense system for WordPress. Only a few days back I had installed dr Dave’s brilliant SpamKarma v2 which seems to work very well (thanks Ruth). So my question here is: Which of the 2 is better and why?
On a not so different perhaps annoying note why did WordPress Team that developed Akismet force registration on users? While Akismet IS free its no good installing it if you are not able to get an wordpress.com API key and to do so you need to register even if you have a blog!! C’mon!!
I was thinking exactly the same thing… all I’m doing on wordpress.com is taking up space. I already have 2 blogs, an that’s more than enough for me.
Having said that, I haven’t had a single spam comment since I started using Akismet about 4 days ago. Most spam comments got trapped in my moderation queue (probably 15-20 a day), but once a month or so a couple would make it through.
So far, so good, but I’ll be keeping an eye on it.
SpamKarma seems good too but now that I have activated Akismet it remains to be seen. Seems like its quite a good utility to have. I usually don’t get much spam since I moved trotted over to WordPress but still its always good to have the tool to nip it in the bud.
Someone else below asked this already about antispam scripts. I am getting nailed with Spam on my website mails and in our blog website - now its offline too much spam. Is there anyway to stop this? If not, there really isn’t any point in leaving it up and active. Any help will be greatly appreciated.
