As photographer for the sophisticated Home magazine, Harold Cazneaux produced some very extraordinary catalogue of Sydney style in the 1920s and 30s.
From the Art Deco skyscrapers of the city centre to images of modern home design and interiors, Cazneaux depicted all that was fashionable and new and strikingly modern and glamorous.
The Home published his portraits of Sydney socialites, artists, models and actors, and the proud owners of gleaming new automobiles. The exhibition includes the houses of some of Sydney’s leading families, influential artists, designers and architects of the period, whose work exemplified ‘good taste’. The exhibition includes many new photographs specially printed from original Cazneaux negatives, never previously shown.
In other words, if you are in Sydney this time of the year, it would be well worth a visit.

This exhibition is definitely a must for anyone who loves Sydney. A very interesting look at the time when our city was “growing up”.
Afterwards, you can do a self guided walking tour of buildings that remain from that era.
Amit - love the photo as well :). A nice surprise when you click on it.
Wasn’t it just lovely… I really enjoyed myself. Its so nice to see Sydney has retained a fair bit of the old architecture and the artdeco of the glorious 20s and 30s. Its nice that the Musuem of Sydney brings on some fantastic exhibitions from time to time.
