After having stayed in a few weekends we decided to go for a somewhat longish spin down to Canberra Cooma. Last weekend was a long weekend due to Anzac Day — a day to commemorate all the brave soldiers that laid their lives for Australia in Gallipolli. We took off to Canberra from Sydney and drove down along the M5 Motorway. Our first exit was the quaint little town of Berrima. Fascinating! We have been there about a couple of times but was mum and dad’s first. They loved it. It is a small historic town and has so much character it almost makes you feel like moving there for good. The flora and faun, the autumn leaves, the soft gentle autumn breeze.. Well actually it was cold.
We had gourmet pies for lunch and then headed back onto the M5 towards Canberra.

Mum, Dad and I spent a fair bit of time planting bulbs I had bought somedays back. Autumn is the right time to plant your bulbs in if you care for plants and flowers in particular. Mary-Anne and I had bought a fair bit of ‘em from J N Hankcock & Co. We have gone through few pots of Fressias, white, creamy white, scented ones, coloured, double coloured, tall mixed tyes, Nerines, white, red, pinking red, wine red, Daffodils, pink laces, white, mixed… oh there is a lot of variety and to add to that I even got a Ctenanthe — an evergreen photosensitive foliage, and all this commotion as Chumki quietly and leisurely watched us working in the garden. She is not allowed to go out. The moggy neighbours cat is all out to get her and frequents our driveway way too often. We have moved some furniture around the lounge area and few pots and plants too — it looks awesome
ofcourse, Ian and I just don’t have a formal degree in interior decoration is all. But that doesn’t stop us…
If you have a very bright and colourful desktop wallpaper this is something you should read.
With digital imaging so rampant many ornate their wallpapers with scenic photos or portraits of loved ones or even very colourful abstract themes etc. and yes they all look really beautiful. But they maybe counter-productive if you are a graphic artist.

A very big thank you to Ruth for lending me such an inspirational book. It is a touching experience, something that makes you look deep within yourself and how and where you want to head. Following is an excerpt from “The seven habits of highly effective people” by Steven Covey — I was reading on my way home on the train. A small portion of the talk about proactiveness versus reactiveness in peoples lives and how often peoples actions and/or reactions are so passive. Read on…
With the advent of digital cameras and it being so readily available, the process of taking photos has definitely boosted. We live in a time when mobile phones, PDAs and even watches have cameras built in. But what seems sadly lacking often is the art of taking good(subjective I know) photos. This is why I thought of writing about a few basic tips on composing good photos. I will keep them simple and easy to understand and write about basic photo frame composition, also known as selecting your frame. Please bear in mind the following point are merely a guideline, you may not agree with them fully. In fact as you grow in your photography skill you’ll possibly move on to adopt a few more challenging ideas.
This morning we decided to visit North Head, Manly — the northern foreshore of Greater Sydney. It was a long drive as I took a few a wrong turn, after all it is the weekend and the roads are bustling with people, cars and not to mention the regular beach goers. I have been on holidays since Wednesday so doesn’t quite feel like a Saturday but still you know what I mean. Manly seemed a lot busiers that before and the nudy rudies were all over the place. Manly truly is a great place for kids and family and the good ole ‘Fish ‘n Chips’.
Last night Mum and Dad came down to visit us down under. After what seemed a long wait at the airport — we could finally see them coming through. They flew out of India at almost zero hours from Calcutta and changed over at Singapore on to Sydney. They have come to like Singapore Airlines. I haven’t travelled with Singapore Airlines to date so I have nothing to say but they seem good and mum loved the fish they served last night. My parents grew up around a place that had lot of lakes and rivers and fresh water fish was a must, well almost a staple food. So for them to like fish it has to be perfect! Anyway they are here and we are happy to see them again after a year. Time to go more places, time to relax and enjoy a bit.
