Canon 5D Mark II

I had a close encounter with the Canon 5D Mark II. No, haven’t bought one yet… but Suresh was kind enough to let me play with one yesterday at Kayell. In the short time that I held this baby I can say I loved the full-frame view and a whopping 21 megapixel output makes up for a whole lot of detail in he photo. I love the newish menu control. I see improvements there which I worth, though on a slightly different note it took me while to work out the HD movie mode. Great LCD with auto adjusting backlight (makes a big difference when you are out an about in field under changing lighting conditions). I so want this B-A-B-Y!! :)

Hoya HD Circular Polariser

Hang on, maybe more… it has had years of rugged use across our travels through America, Europe, Asia & Australia. I really shouldn’t complain, should I? I have on occasions accidentally dropped it while changing lenses. It has been through a bit not to mention Chumi has kissed it with her musky Persian breath at times :) . When we were at Copacabana it gave way for the 3rd and final time. It wasn’t until I had to shoot without polariser that I realised how very much I relied on it.

Sunset at Copacabana

Sunset at Copacabana
Canon EOS 40D, ISO 100, 24mm f/4, 1/250

A quick hurried sunset shot from The Coco Beach Hut before we went out for dinner at Sirocco. Sorry about the ashtray :) No, I don’t really smoke.

A good sunset shot is always very refreshing. The human eye can perceive much more colour depth and dynamic range that any camera ever made. Even though the photo landed up with some blown highlights I still like what I see. The part that I *love* most about this photo is the streaming rays through the trees in the distance — like a firefly chasing the shards of hue.

The lovely D had booked us in at the Hilton on Sunday and it was lovely to kick back and watch the world go by from our towering height at the Executive Lounge. Afternoon view of the QVB Dome from the Hilton Executive Lounge on Level 36 .
