If you really, really, really want people to see your great web design, you’re flattering yourself; content is king. If you didn’t believe that the content is the important part of your site, you wouldn’t be providing an RSS feed. Bite the bullet and give us full text.

John has it right. People that dont give full RSS mosly dont believe ‘content is king’ or don’t get off their lazy ass to implement it, or just don’t care enough! Some of the best usability and Accessibility gurus in the Industry have this backwards! I am not surprised.

    When I read RSS feeds using Sage with Mozilla, I prefer to see excerpts of articles rather than the whole thing so I can quickly scan them without much scrolling and then jump to any articles I’m interested in on the website. I also like reading articles in context on the website to get related links and other info provided etc. I find it annoying though when only headlines of articles are distributed in RSS feeds. One para is usually enough to get a feel for the article and allow me to decide whether I want to read the whole thing.

    I agree. I do find it rather annoying when I get 3 lines in the RSS Feed and then I have to click(no choice offered) the link to visit the site to read the article. This process defeats the purpose of RSS. If you want them to come to the site anyway why offer them feed? And if you do offer feed why not full feed? what good is it reading half and half? The other disadvantage is when I travel I like to be able to read my feeds, I am not always connected to the Internet. But if people provided full RSS Feed I would have the opportunity to read it all.

    Bottom lines is: If you write well people will come to your site anyway, showing the carrot and making them follow you around your little finger doesn’t work long.
