Bushfires in Mount Ku-ring-gai

Tags

The temperature in Hornsby reached a sweltering 41°C soon after midday. Extremely hot and sultry!! Unbearable! Luckily most knew it was going to be a hot day and were prepared. But no one was prepared for the bushfires right down here so close at Mount Ku-ring-gai. The scary bit… I am not too far from Mount Ku-ring-gai Chase and given the bushfires have been burning for a while it *does* worry me. Good news though, the fire crews and the water bombing helicopters are on the thankless task and doing the best they can. There doesn’t seem to be any threat to property now but it still feels a bit uneasy. A little price one has to pay living this close to the National Park I suppose. Well least you’d know if there were no updates made on this site I might have gone up in flames lured by the devils firely charm.

Good grief! Be careful and keep your eyes open. We don’t have bushfires in North Carolina :) …YES, that is a hint!

Living over this way for most of my life, in a sick way, I’m kind of used to it. One year they closed off the road to my house. We were told pack up our precious belongings and commence evacuting. So there I was with our cat Maddy, a box of photos and a little jewellery….by the afternoon we were given the all clear.

Hey Amit, if the flames do get to us, do you think they will have sushi train in hell?

That must have been a nightmare and ofcourse as time passes it makes a great story but living it in the real is so not fun… I see the smoky clouds rising up in the sky and the bumper to bumper traffic for kilometers on end since pasts of the F3 has been closed. When I got up this morning there were a few firecrew and water bombing helicopters circling the sky… the news was.. there is fresh spot fires in North Turramurra… I am hoping they bring it all under control soon… It is scary!!

Nan you must be experiencing negative temperatures there as we toast up in 41°C!!

Phew – I think relief is in sight. Just went onto SMH and they say the F3 has just re-opened and that the fires have been contained. Thank goodness. Little Chumi girl will be ok (good thing she went to the hairdressers before Xmas and had her coat trimmed to keep her cool!)

I can remember back to the 2nd Christmas i spend here in AU, was spending it with DavidM and his Family, and outside was hazy with smoke, ambers and ash in the air, it was dark (12pm) with a red hue. Our place backs onto a bush reserve, and there are a few other bush reserves in a 5Km radius, being alert is the main thing. There is nothing much you can do if the fires draws closer, except to keep calm and do as much as you can, and know when it is time to pack and leave…
