If you have watched the series you’d probably be able to guess what I’m about to write here but if you haven’t… its definitely worth watching.
The all new series called Californication is what I ‘m talking about! As of September 2007 this is possibly the most controversial TV series in Australia and there is a big push to axe the show. Its rather realistic in some ways and can be quite in the face and seemingly bold and disturbing for the religious minded as Californication is racy, raunchy and uncut right down to the core. Who doesn’t love a realistic controversial show? Except that this in some ways pushes the boundaries of regular TV. And it certainly did push the buttons for a religious group that led a candle light vigil with 40 parishoners outside Channel Ten’s Sydney studio during last Monday’s episode.
Californication is nothing if not true to its title. The opening sequences show former The X-Files star David Duchovny’s character steaming down a palm tree-lined street on the way to a church, where he proceeds to engage in the sort of sexual relations which got former US president Bill Clinton in trouble.
I watched the second episode this week. I can understand why it has set a lot of people on warpath to shut this program down but seriously… where is democracy heading to if prime-ministers and priests decide whats morally good for the 21st century? The best part yet is: the advertisement breaks during Californication was full of 1900 number escort calls. Did anyone complain about that?
Where lies the justification in this modern day secular democratic world? Oh humanity!
I neither love nor hate the show, as such don’t have an opinion on it but that doesn’t mean I’d spoil other peoples viewing pleasure. If you don’t like it, don’t watch it you miserable conservatives.
