Set in the romantic wilderness of Cold Mountain, North Carolina, the perilous journey of a wounded soldier in the waning days of the American Civil War, to reunite with his beloved Ada. Based on one of the most acclaimed novels in recent memory, “Cold Mountain” sets off on a true American odyssey through a time that saw some of the greatest ferocity — and heroism — the nation has ever known.

I am from the south USA and this was a good representation of a part of our history. I imagine all wars have their own stories but I think the love story here proves there is such a thing as “true love”. Wonderful film.
I LOVE these kinds of stories -)
I still have mixed feelings about this movie. On one hand, I appreciate the scope and power the film conveys and definitely feel its “Best Picture” worthy. On the other, I felt so exhausted and violated walking out of the theatre after… sheesh.
I am not from North Carolina or the South yet through the movie I felt the pain of the war, the history written in every brick on those houses, and the suffering and loss of loved ones. As a matter of fact when we saw this movie which was about 2 days back, we could hear people cry, weep and sob silently in the theatre, throughout the movie. It is the most powerful movie I have seen to date. A true powerful odyssey beginning through the end. A movie we just didn’t want to end…. it has certainly put most of the blockbuster movies like ‘Lord of the Ring’ etc. to utter shame!
There are movies and there are movies. I am glad I watched it. And in time I will read the book too. Most certainly I do not wish to compare but even if one would think; the sequel of “The Lord of the Ring’ it says one thing loud and clear – 3 long series and yet it failed to captivate the audience. Thats why I say.. there are movie and there are movie. Believe what you will.
Cold Mountain is a beautiful film and let’s remember that it is just that. A MOVIE! No matter how one tries and how well done, one cannot expect it to capture the essence of every emotion of those living the real events. This is about people, their love, their losses, their triumphants, and their hardships. I am from the South and though disagree with slavery of any kind, at the time it was a way of life. I wonder who sold the slaves to the plantation owners and who ate the food raised by those farmers? Not just the southerners I don’t believe. All war movies whether it about the Holocaust, WWI or WWII, or Vietnam tries to represent the feelings going on at the time so give it a rest and enjoy this work of art from a great director.
