Our flight was delayed leaving Sydney for Brisbane and another flying up to Brisbane half hour earlier, cancelled. Commotion all around. We were onboard after some more delay and then took more time before we taxied onto the runaway and then finally took off piercing through the thick grey clouds. I could spot Brighton Le Sands between the patches of thick rain clouds but in moments we pierced through a few layers of thick dense fluffy cumulous clouds. Qantas served a light lunch which was nice and soon in about an hours time we were descending over Coolangatta. Landing into Brisbane was exactly like landing at Heathrow or maybe the air traffic was just bad at that particular time. We circled over Moreton Bay at least twice if not more. Luckily the car hire was snazzy and so was getting our bags off the carousel and we were northward bound to beautiful gorgeous Sun-shiny Noosa except that it was going to rain the next three days in a row. We had an inkling so it didn’t really bother us. It looked really lush and green. And yes it was raining, sometimes a bit heavier than normal. We stopped at a café in Coolum for a quick bite and reminissed Kath and Kims holiday at the Coolum Hyatt! And then we’re off again driving along the costline heading up to Noosa. It was raining all the way but was still pretty. David had recently ordered the Now 69 from Amazon. It was perfect we raved up the volume and sang along to “The Journey Continues” by Mark Brown featuring Sarah Cracknell & Elena Kats-Chernin. Watch the video of the song here, its on Disc 2, track number 14! Addictive! Love it, love it, love it! It was pretty much one of our theme songs for this short holiday and can I just say poo on iTunes (DS yes you were right) for not letting me buy songs from other iTunes music stores e.g. iTunes UK!
Between claps of thunder and pelting rain later that evening we went for a jaunt about town and something pulled us back to one of our old favourite haunts — Café Fratellini on Sunshine Beach. It sure got a write up on Courier mail. Ah, I like that phrase ‘Nosh with the posh’ sounds really vain but truly this is a hidden gem if you’re about Sunshine Beach — a must do if you have good taste in food and ambiance. We were sitting at the bar window and sipping a nice coffee when it starting pelting down yet again!
After having travelled through nearly all the states in Australia except Northern Territory I can quite clearly say Queensland is quite unique and possibly one of my favourite holiday spots in Australia — as long you don’t holiday there in summer!
Well, that coming from someone who was born in India but no seriously Queensland is awesome and Tropical Queensland is paradise. Especially around Palm Cove, Trinity Beach, Port Douglas… you just don’t see beaches as beautiful as these very easy.

The weather is supposed to be pretty poor at the moment in most regions of Queensland. Maybe that was why there were issues landing.
How was Coolangatta airport for you? Every time I go there it’s always a pain. Small, not enough people, have to wait ages for the bags to arrive, etc.
Hi Zzap, looks like it, the weather has been a bit of an annoyance lately, Sydney is supposed to be sunny tomorrow, after ages! It sure would be a welcome change.
We didn’t actually land at Coolangatta, the aircraft started descending and then onward to the grand finale of landing at Brisbane. The view over Moreton was lovely though.
well, glad to hear you enjoyed the sunshiny coast – now, why didn’t you fly into maroochydore? that way you could’ve bypassed sad old brown brissie, and just landed amongst the palm trees. we get two whole flights to maroochy a day you know
you should’ve asked the local – hee hee…

Aaaah lovely Tracey, what a pleasant surprise
We did fly up to Maroochydore last year but given we booked flights late this time around there were fewer choices so… long story short we decided to fly up to your favourite place Brissy not to mention… flying up to Brisbane is $150/person cheaper than to Maroochy! We didn’t land up saving any cause there are distractions galore and one must please their inner-man when on holidays so we ate like a king… or queen. LOL. Ah Bistro C, Fratellini, Lorenza’s Ristorante, Organika, The Boat House, Poet’s Cafe, Montville… and a few other good ones I can’t remember the names of… old age is cruel!
When are you coming down? Gosh Paris was such a blast too… I’m still working on those 2,000 odd photos…. yeah yeah I know, soon…
Sounds like the inner man certainly was well looked after on your sunshine coast travels!! Good going! Wish I could go back up this weekend and try some of those places out.
