Freedom of blogging

Why do we write blogs or journals?

It is not because people wish to berate others but merely to express their feelings, thoughts, to share information with the world be it good useful or maybe just a casual banter. People write blogs and journal because that is one way of keeping in touch with their friends and family and loved ones or even strangers. Some write to promote concerns about issues happenings injustice or merely for educational purpose. I strongly believe writing weblog should be fun, should be a feeling expressed right out of the heart without having to worry about ‘Is big brother watching’ — unfortunately he always is… always. In the recent past I have had a few issues and been asked to take down a few entires I had written…sad but thats how the story goes.

I’m a member of the Digital Divide Network Discussion Forum Listserv and the last few posts on the list have been about civiblogging or civic community journalism and its potential for providing alternatives to mainstream media, disseminating information and knowledge and allowing a wider range of voices to be heard. For more details, read the post titled multimedia blogging from the DNC in Boston.

Thanks Ruth, appreciate your concern.

The brilliance of this medium is the ability to debate and dialogue about issues such as this with other “people” - that is, people who have access to a computer, can connect to the Internet and live in a country where the government doesn’t censor content seen as politically subversive! Its revolutionary that “people” can have their voices heard like this and counteract repressive behaviour relatively easily. Let’s ensure we keep it that way…
