Over the weekend we watched Gavin and Stacey and loved it
This is one sweet, funny, realistic romantic commedy that blooms between Gavin - the nice lad from Essex and seemingly simple and down to earth girl Stacey from Barry. Gavin and Stacey spoke to each other for a long time before they got to met. Gavins best mate Smithy is a plumber who obviously loves his food and beer and had a thing for Pam, Gavin’s mum :). Smithy supports Gavin in everything but is inwardly happy but also sad that he(Gavin) has met the love of his life and is going to marry and move on with his life so that kinda limits all the fun times he has with Gavin. Gavins mum and dad: Pam and Mick are well off in their immaculate Essex house and are not past the share of oddities of living a somewhat glam life in comparison to Staceys close knit family her mum Gwen bit of an oddity* and uncle Bryn — oddity times 5 and best friend Ness, lovely but odd again — who by the turn of fortune gave Smithy a night to remember and probably pregnant from it. Oh the plot thickens. I can’t wait for series II.
It took me an episode to get into the whole thing but before I knew I was totally into it must say its quite cleverly done. Cheap nasty jokes and toilet humour sells easier than true antiquated old fashioned romantic comedies. And Gavin and Stacey proves that simple realistic story-lines work just as well when written from the heart… I think it was marvellous and on some levels better than Little Britain. No seriously! Very commendable job… we even watched the out-takes! Now, thats telling something.
Thank you Alx for the lend… we can’t wait to see the new series… although I believe someone watched the first sequel of the second series on the flight over from Singapore… naughty naughty… Oh DS!
Here is a little write-up from the wiki:
Gavin & Stacey is a BAFTA award winning[1] British sitcom originally aired on BBC Three and later shown on BBC Two, written by and starring Ruth Jones and James Corden and produced by Baby Cow Productions
Don’t miss Gavin and Stacey
and if you have watched it I’d like to hear your thoughts too.
* I have nothing against the odd or the non-conformist.
Kooky people somehow add the to the richness of the tapestry of life.
We have a whole suburb of ‘em in Sydney.

I’ll tell you no lies Amit! It’s a brilliant series and some of the best characters I’ve seen on telly in a long time. I hope that it comes to Australian TV soon, though if anyone wants to see it now definitely order the DVD from the UK.
Oh Daffid I loved it. So tenderly real and beautiful — the characters are so palpably its hard to not get right into it. I tell you no lies I loved it. And I do love the row of houses in Barry, so juxtaposed with the close-knit family of Staceys… what a perfect subtle portrayal.
lads.. I love Gav and Stacey… It’s totally brilliant and sums up British life so well…
