Gold Star Weekend

March 2007. Its officially Autumn, soon the clock goes back an hour. But the sultry summer is far from over. Saturday was a very hot 37° C up here in Hornsby. Sunday night we had dazzling claps of thunder for two long hours all around Sydney. What a spectacular display in the night sky but at times the shards of lighting felt like they’d land right next door.

It was a great weekend with lots of errands but loved it all the way from the many movies at the Mardi Gras Film Festival the previous week, catching up with Bill who is visiting friends in Sydney, breakfast with the lovely Kelly and Heidi, a scrumptious seafood buffet for Harry’s 30th where I generously helped myself with four serves of main course, Oh-My-God! Lovely ferry ride on a sun shiny day with clear blue skies, movies, more movies at the Cremorme Orpheum (though if you haven’t seen ‘Stranger than fiction’ don’t bother its fugly, clueless and dumb!), catching up on last weeks Ugly Betty that I’d missed (thanks D:) and then meeting up with Ian who is due to leave for regional Thailand as a Youth Ambassador soon through AusAid on an exchage program, Ruth, Loretta and Katie walking down memory lane at the Opera Bar in the accompaniment of Liam Sampras’ live soulful music with freshly made Majito.

Stories of magical Maleny, catching up with gorgeous Bub-a-licious (Rose), her friends Shirley, Lorraine, the Cheese Factory at Kennelworth where we tasted a curried cheese for the first time ever, the local Art Gallery, assortments at the Cowgirls, the loop around Witta, Poet’s Cafe at Montville, the absolute magical lookout over the Blackall Range towards the Glass House Mountain, Café Uptown, our tales of driving past Ettamoga pub, Buderim and Yandina, gorgeous Noosa,… Ruth’s visit to India,… life passes by too quick when you’re having fun. More on our Sunshine Coast soon, I promise. In Judi Dench’s words1: “… it was a Gold Star **** weekend!!” And it really was.

  • Jam packed or what! Really enjoyed our afternoon at the Opera Bar. The humidity will prepare Ian for the steaminess of Bangkok -on second thoughts, nothing can compare you for that.

So there was a lightning storm Sunday night in Sydney. Glad that happened after I’d flown out! There was also a lightning storm on Saturday when I was waiting at Melbourne airport to catch my plane to Sydney and all planes were grounded for 15mins. Luckily it passed quickly.

  • Yeah, it was that sort of a weekend. Saturday nite was a good nite. But wasn’t it HUMID on Sunday, which ended up with an amazing yet dangerous lightly show put on by Mother Nature.

Humidity in Bangkok, hmmmm… he’d better be really prepared Ruth :)

  • Ruth, yes it was but it was lovely. It was lovely to see you in Sydney, hopefully our visit to Melbourne wouldnt be too far in the future and surely hope there is not lighting when we’re flying LOL. Although the flight back and forth between Sydney and Mooroochedore was constantly in and out of rain clouds and bumpy in place but still a lot of fun :) It was a lovely night Saturday too Harry. There should be more of it. Hope you got lots of pressies. :)

  • Yay – look forward to it. And happy birthday Harry! Yes when I was in Bangkok in December I was exhausted after walking about 2 steps and that’s meant to be the cooler part of the year!

  • Hope we get to sit by the fig tree and reminisce the years gone by.

  • :) what pressies lol i only got a few pressies, but nevertheless, it was good to be among good friends :)

    Thanks Ruth

  • Hey Amit, missed the weekend – playing cricket :) Hope to see you down in Melbourne soon. Bring your warm clothes though :)

  • How funny, thought we saw you on the ferry waving at us… Ruth said you were in Sydney, following her around secretly! We all know ‘cricket’ was your excuse… ssssh! We won’t tell Ruth.

It is getting cold, Hornsby was 11° C last night!! Melbourne would be fun!

  • Shhhhhh!!! Secret Squirell!! Hahaha, yes, Ruth did say that you saw my doppellganger in Sydney :) If we ever meet the universe will implode!

Yeah, nights are definately getting cold here, although the days are still quite nice. Well, you know that we have a spare room, so you only need a plane ticket! Hope to see you down this way!

  • Tempting very tempting, I say!… would we get free eggs and bacon, fig and then the beetle bum squirt*… although we must visit The Hatton too. Thats such a South Yarra tradition.

Both D and I are autumn babies except that my autumns are in August, autumn in March is just so wrong :)
