Harbourside Indian Restaurant

Harbourside Indian RestaurantIn a few hours from now we’ll be at this gorgeous little place seated by the window overlooking the Sydney harbour as the night lights come on in the city and the ferries sail by over a scrumptious meal at the Harbourside Indian Restaurant. I can barely wait to be there. Having gone past this restaurant many times, I’ve always wanted to go in for a meal. Am waiting with baited breath.

This intimate Indian restaurant enjoys the same aspect that inspired Brett Whitley’s iconic portrayals of Sydney Harbour (his home is just metres below the restaurant windows). For those unfamiliar with his painting The Balcony 2, the view extends over the water of Lavender Bay to Luna Park, and is crowned by the Sydney Harbour Bridge. The small restaurant has tall ceilings and, while there are only a few window tables, the size of the dining room affords the majority of tables a view. For those who miss out, a few carefully positioned mirrors capture the twinkle of the city in their reflection.

UPDATE: Little did I know that the food here would be so utterly butterly delicious. Oh My God! This feels like truly being right in India. The waiter who took our order was really polite. The food was absolutely divine and had that very traditional nascent Indian taste. Yumm! We had the mixed entrée, Kingfisher(Indian beer) braised lamb-shanks made in the traditional northern style and Murg(chicken) muglai that was to die for. Yumm times two. Along with that slow cooked basmati rice cooked with various condiments like cinnamon, clove and saffron and bay-leaf and rotis, papadam and raita. The food really was finger licking good. Divine. Palatable. Lip-smacking, absolutely appetising. We do eat out a bit and trust me when I say this, not many Indian restaurants cook this exemplary and authentic style! Alright, will get off my high horse now. There are more self-indulgant things I could go on about… really, very self-indulgent ones, but lets fast forward a bit… The view of the Sydney Harbour bridge from Harbourside Indian Restaurant and the all lit up Luna Park is really something you could watch for hours.
