Hornsby - the bushland Shire

A few days more and we will be moving to the Hornsby — the bushland shire of New South Wales. Hornsby is about a 40 minute train ride from the city of Sydney, about the same distance by road. From Pearces Corner to Wisemans Ferry and from Beecroft to Brooklyn, Hornsby Shire is a vibrant and beautiful place to visit and to live. Hornsby is surrounded by the Ku-Rin-Gai Chase which is about 5 kms away and Gosford about ten kilometers on the other. What I now feel a little bad about is that having lived nearly two long year right next to the Lane cove National Park I never made it there.

Though we are excited very much about our move, sans the shifting hassles we are a bit upset about leaving behind our extended family, the lovely diddums, the gorgeous Rainbow Lorikeets that come every morning and evening for their feed. Funnily enough, though we bought them the best bird feed we could find around here they only ever like sugar!! Talk about sugar hit! The Lorikeet makes up for all the years I went without any sugar in a week! Every morning there would be between four or eight of them all waiting on the balcony railing for a feed. and of the lot two seem overly smart… one that jumps up and down my precious Refus palm(they know I hate it) and the other that poaches on the hanging pots and hell would break loose if I got up late. They make sure they are heard, LOUD and clear. Some come around to the bedroom window sill. No I cant sleep in on Saturdays. Quietness is not quite their forte but they do try and the other.. thinks this one is the leader of the pack…she(I assume) sits right on the balcony door knob. Spot on 6:40 am! Occasionally taps the glass on the balcony door. But in all that pandemonium and flutter and fight they have with their competetors - Indian miners. I never have stopped loving them. And we are going to miss them terribly! Wish I could take them with us but that would be bad idea. I am hoping some new ones find us in Hornsby soon! I shall keep my sugar jar full. The above Photo was shot by me last year. This is a regular phenomenon! Now isn’t that pretty!

  1. Lane Cove National Park is a beautiful spot and well worth a visit. Great area for picnics at this time of year.

Know what you mean about not visiting places nearby tho. I worked next to St Pauls Cathedral in London for a couple of years and never went inside :)
