Infamous - Truman Capote

a still from Truman Capotes movie InfamousSurely its been a long few days at work and home. Catching up on pending chores never seem to end… but its Thursday evening and the weekend is just around the corner and been out quite a few nights soaking up every gay movie in town given the Mardi Gras Film Festival is on. So I can’t really complaint.

Most of these movies are non-mainstream and wouldn’t quite whet the appetite of regular ‘Hollywood slapstick’ watchers. These are mostly, in some form associted to peoples real lives — presented, written, or directed by luminaries across the globe in a somewhat non-heterosexual theme. While I can’t wait for the weekend to begin, I’m also dying to see tonights larger than life character Truman Capote’s — ‘Infamous which is beeing premiered as the closing night film for the Mardi Gras Film Festival.

At last! The other Capote film. This new take on gay author Truman Capote was made at the same time as last year’s hailed Capote, but was held back because it dealt with the same real-life characters. Infamous however, delves bravely where Capote was too scared to go - directly into the subject of Truman Capote’s homosexuality. Infamous is the ultimate Closing Night extravaganza that will not disappoint.

The movie certainly didn’t disappoint. I loved it. In Cold Blood is one of my all time fave books, and to see the story behind the book was amazing.

I give the film 4½ stars out of 5.

I haven’t read the book (on my ‘to read’ list now) but I totally agree. I’d certainly give it 4½ stars too. And so witty and at the same time humorous, deep and light-hearted. Wouldn’t mind seeing it all over again!!

Phillip Seymour Hoffman did an exquisite job playing the title character in Capote. However, he had nothing over Toby Rogers who had every affect down pat of the flambuoyant and talented writer. I loved the film. It was put together very well except for some real artistic license taken regarding the relationship between Perry Phillips and Mr. Capote.

Although I have recently watched both “CAPOTE” and “INFAMOUS”, I did managed to write a review of the second film - http://ladylavinia.livejournal.com/31217.html

As for “CAPOTE”, I hope to write one soon as possible.
