Kookaburra perched on a tree at Clontarf

Kookaburras are large terrestrial Kingfishers native to Australia and Papua New Guinea. Very typically known for their loud call that somewhat echoes a human laughter. There is more on Kookaburra at Wikipedia. This one in particular was rather fearless and after our BBQ.
Hope you all had a lovely Australia Day!
Amit, this is such a beautiful photo. Kookaburra’s are my favourite bird & I declare it to be my lucky day whenever I see one. I also think it’s one of the most wonderful sounds to hear a kookaburra laughing. I saw one yesterday (Australia Day of course) who kept flying through a sprinkler to keep cool! Love, love, love this photo!
Awww… they are very cute birds. Thanks Els. I remember feeding one in Perl beach ages back… I was more scared approaching the bird than the bird of me, probably only because of the proximity and its size. But true that they are lovely. Aren’t they cute when they call… how nice you saw one yesterday. We had a bunch of these and three really persistent ones perched on the tree very close to the Park BBQ at Clontarf – looking intently at what was cooking.
You truly are very talented Mr. K
Bless your cotton socks. Thanks Luzzle
I’ve so much more to learn though. Long way to go.
