Minus 5 experience

Sydney as many of you already know sports the minus 5 degree experience in the Opera Quays. While this has been open about 2 years back I never had the opportunity until yesterday. I finally experienced the Ice lounge at Minus 5 where everything is made of ice… the seat, the cocktail glasses, the ice table, ice chairs the ice sculptures of-course. The girls who serve at the front desk and on the way in through the antechamber seemed rather miserable though! No smiles, flat as a sheet of paper, totally bereft of any emotions. Too much cold weather does that to you! Seriously though, thats a very small whinge to the fun we had in there…

There were quite a few gorgeous ice sculptures, The pumpkin man was perhaps my best, and there was one of the Eiffel Tower. Given our sojourn Paul struck up a conversation with the photographer lady saying that D and I were French (LOL) so we must get our photo taken in-front of the parisian ice tower. The poor old gullible thing raised her eyebrows in a somewhat half-greet, checked us both in a fleeting glance and shot her best shots and we jeered quietly…

Soon we followed down the Opera house and found ourselves seated at the edge of the gorgeous Opera House and popped open a bottle of Bella enjoying the magnificient view of the harbour and the sun sinking in the horizon over the Sydney Harbour Bridge as we sipped pink champagne! We did have a lot of fun heading down to the Rocks later and walking along the waterfront, listening to buskers along the way to Pancakes on the Rocks.

Doesn’t time fly by too quick, especially weekends and more so when you’re having fun?

    My my…what a lovely time. I’m not sure if I could stand it in all that cold even WITH the heavy coat. Do they serve food in there too?

    @Nancy:
    They serve cocktails. The first one is complementary and you can get as drunk as you like but they chuck you out in the heat of sydney so you dont get frost bitten. :)

    @Rudra: LOL icy i think :) worth the experience, but after the howling winds on Eiffel Tower that was not very daunting. :)

    @Anand: Sounds like fun. We’re heading into winter gradually though not quite like what you have in Manchester. :)
