Exploring Mt Wilson and Mt Tomah

Fall Colour in Mt WilsonI had a fair bit of Cav Sav last night. David always makes sure I get drunk soon :) and his choice of wine is super. Needless to say he has been tasting wine since he was a kid and maintains his own cellar! Anyway, it was time to leave Oberon. We waved the trout goodbye and meandered down the road — well actually up to Mt Victoria. The weather got very nippy and as we drove up the mountain it was really chilly again. It was another super autumn day, gentle sun lovely breeze until… how could you ask for more. We drove up to Mt Wilson from Oberon. The fascinating autumn colour seemed to have engufled that part of the mountains. It was COLD but so beautiful that for a moment when you realised the beauty around you the physical discomfort of being in the chill and strong breeze seemed unimportant. We spent a bit of time at Mt Wilson I did fair bit of photography and then hoped on the car again for our next destination down past the valley up again around another mountain — Mt Tomah.

Fish at Mt TomahMt Tomah has fascinating fern trees and some real exotic plants, collected form different parts of the world in its Botanic gardens. History has it that Mt Tomah was the oldest living Fern tree in the world, It is a part of the world heritage area. There is just so much to see! We spent a good portion of our day here at the top part of the garden and then a short break at the kiosk and then down to the famous gardens below through the obsevatory deck. Oh What a glorious day it was. We just didn’t want to leave the place, it was cold yet so beautiful. There is a moderate size pond that flows around the lower botanic garden and has some gorgeous little fish. They are truly cute. Our next stop was Bilpin for a quick look around and some special jams and apples. If you love apples this is the place to go. Other than Tasmanias this probably is the next best place for apple orchards in New South Wales.

It was getting late and we had to wind up much that we didn’t want to we drove back through Kurrajong Heights and onto Windsor and then home. Oh what a day! Oh what a weekend!
