Edited: The name of the thai place is Sumalee Thai in Bank Hotel Newtown. Thanks D.
As you would have figured Be like Others *was* depressing. Luckily D took me to a lovely Thai on King Street. Having a senior moment… the name escapes me. (will update tomorrow) I hadn’t been to this one before. The entrance is right from King Street and you go through the pub area down 2 flights of stairs it comes out into a whole different semi-outdoorsy feel sitting area with gas-heated lamps… Nice. Ages back as I was told by D one side of the building was oopen to the tracks where you could see the trains go past… Even though we were seated right in the heart of Newtown there was no noise, almost expcept for the ambient chitter-chatter. We had the traditional Green Curry. I *love* a hot and spicy Thai green curry I do! And also the traditional massaman. The food was really nice but we had to pay separately for extra rice — odd! And yes we didn’t get water. Not the best service but not bad enough to turn up our noses. Not yet anyway. We could have sat there for another hour and cogitated!
but we had a show to catch.
…then there was the movie…
I decided it would be right to brighten up the night with a little retail therapy. Dendy Newtown comes out right off the Fish music store… we waddled in and I gave in to my Colbie Caillat lust. I had been wanting to buy Colbie Caillat’s new album Coco for a while. I love Bubbly. Done! But greed took over at that point and I splurged at Paris — highlighting artists from the Nouvelle Scene which features modern takes on classic French chanson.
Opening the album is a track from one of the leading artists of the nouvelle scène, Thomas Fersen. On “Au Café de la Paix,” Fersen channels the spirit of famed 60s chanson artist Serge Gainsbourg with darkly ironic lyrics over a sweet, bubbly melody.
Wait thats not all. I love the Putumayo World Music site, I do! Very Retro, cute… and warm. And if you listen to track number 10 — Ta P’tite Flamme, it will transform you right to the cozy little rubber wheeled metros of gay Pari… you can hear the buskers going about on the tube with their ever melodious accordions. Brings back sweet memories…

The Thai restaurant is at the back of the Bank Hotel in Newtown and it’s called Sumalee Thai. A word of caution for would be diners - the servings are huge!
If there is only two of you I would recommend only having the small serve.
Aaaah! Thats the one… Sumalee Thai in Bank Hotel. Thank you.
