NOTE: Read Part 1 and 2.
The traffic got heavier and slowly most roads started showing a City Link’ or the ‘City’ sign. If we’d lost anchor we’d have headed right back into the city and found our bearings and ventured up the Maroondah highway… with no maps around except for the one Hertz give us which is a one sheet photocopy of a ultra modern roadway that wasn’t to scale and has many roads missing we decided to follow our instincts… while we were trying to get our orientation right and enjoying the semi-residential scantily populated suburbs a car zoomed right past me. The registration number read “QUACK” We giggled! “R-U-D-E-ness” said David…
We went down Bells road parallel to Maroondah highway quite a while all the way upto Doncaster, and many a cute named suburbs…. think we even passed the Westfield where Kath and Kim shoot an episode or maybe two. Down at the crossroads one road went down the hill and the sign read “Box Hill”, we followed down that road and finally we arrived at a place called Lilydale which is the very starting point of the Yarra Valley.
Lilydale though a small suburb seemed to have busy roads… we were hungry so decided to have nibbles at a local café called D’lish. My burger was d’lish but the Latté with burnt milk was not so d’lish and everyone in that café seemed pudgy… By this time it had stopped raining, we soon left the little suburb of Lilydale and the road veered off into the wineries… green, quiet, peaceful and somewhat nippy. A short drive further up the road and you have the lovely Domaine Chandon. We had to stop. Agooly was tired. Soon we pulled into the parking of the Chandon vinewards. Agoogly sighed a relief. Poor girl. We went for a little wander… and we were busting too!
