Wouldn’t be so wonderful if people shared, recycled, gave away old books and computers and or IT related hardwares. So often I have seen bookshops like Dymocks, Borders, Angus and Robertson to name a few… who hoard old computer books in the sheer thought of getting every cent out of it? I just got back from Borders in Hornsby a couple of hours back. They have had the Dreamweaver 3 book in their computers section for the last few months now. Also the Microsoft Exchange 5.5. My suggestion is to discount old computer books and sell them off at a lower price for students or to who ever might be interested.
As a client when I walk in the computer section of any bookstore it wouldn’t really impress me if I saw Deamweaver 3 in mid 2004. You can more or less tell how progressive the bookshop is when you look at what the shelves have to offer. So why not put the old books to better use?
1. Give it off to students for lesser price or gratis
2. Set up a bargain weekend deals when people can come and rummage through old books etc!
The same goes for Computers though, How often have I seen people horde computers… when you have enough and a half more to save your soul why not turn to someone who might even be happy having your old computer. You are only getting rid of your old Computer which no longer satishfies your need but it might still be good or probably excellent for someone down the road who probably only needs to get online once in a while. Think of the amount of Public Libraries even in developed countries, think of the Public Schools, do you even know how many peoples lives you might touch even by offering your old bits and pieces to someone in need?? It might after all do them some good. Why not draw up a list of things you can do without?
By eliminating waste, the environment is protected, resources are saved, organizations in need benefit and you make a difference in the quality of your local environment. Recycling the resources in computers also eliminates the need to obtain these elements from nature, decreasing production impact on the environment.
