Ruth’s Birthday at The Heritage Belgian Beer Café

a picture of Ruth wearing a cat maskI hear that the WSG meeting was a great success yesterday while I was getting drunk on the dark red mellowed and full bodied Forbidden fruit, and Belgium’s very own abbey beer — Leffe Blonde and emibriating Poulette mussels cooked with white wine, bacon, vegetables at the Heritage Belgian Beer Cafe. Yummmm. Okie I will stop my mouths watering again!! I am so full of my inner man (thats my love for good food btw) . It was such a great great night celebrating Ruth’s birthday and having dinner with her close friends some of whom I meet after almost a year or more… and all that catch up and goss you know… :)
And guess what almost everybody asked about Chumki… now isn’t she famous! Think I’ll go quitely but I am a bit jealous now!

Some of the little things that went around…
Loretta to me. “Amit what did you get?
Amit: Poo- let!

Loretta: I’am a cancerian.
Ruth: Do you have crabs?
little later. Itchy crack, rub rub rub, rub rub rub!

We have stretch marks from the few hours of non-stop laughter. Loretta had the right cream to rescue.

Laila: Oh look at the insides of mussels!
as she fliped open the poor little muscles cooked in blue cheese and lemon juice.

And you know what. I so have gotten into the habit of procrastinating lately (poor petal, am so t-i-r-e-d)… but I promise to write more soon. Until then.. hic hic Tschüß

Well well. Mussels and muscles all around. Sounds like a good time but I am JJJJJJJJ.

OMG! I take you out on a Sunday and introduce you to the concept of beer (though as I recall it was you who introduced the fish and chips part of the evening) and look what’s happening by Thursday! I just know that next time I see you you will be wearing a pair of stubbies, thongs and a t-shirt with “VB” on the front (oh, *that* VB). And then you will call me “mate” and my mission in life will have been accomplished :-)
Just to keep you on the straight and narrow: Maxine’s first two rules for enjoyable beer drinking:

    1. Never drink anything from the tap unless it is imported (yes, I will howls of derision for this one: I’m a snob - deal with it)

    2. Never drink from the bottle if you are wearing:
    a) a dress or skirt
    b) lipstick
(I’m not sure that there will be occasions when you need to apply this second one yourself Amit, but, you never know……..)

Ooooops. Thinking about it now, I think I may have broken rule number 2 on Sunday. As long as there were no photos, it’s ok :-)

Yes I was quite impressed with Amit last night although after two sips he did declare himself drunk and I thought we may need to get the velvet-padded stretcher out for him! The other interesting comment he made was in relation to the label of the forbidden fruit beer which displays a picture of Adam and Eve wearing only fig leaves. Well after trying the beer, Amit proceeded to compare the taste to what Adam and Eve hid under their fig leaves. Hmmmm, I think you may have a bit more work to do Maxine!

Jealous. Here’s me stuck in Melbourne while everyone was drinking it up at one of my fav establishments in Sydney. I see that you have met Loretta. That is an experience in itself. Back in April before i left Sydney for “Mexico” (ie Victoria) Ruth, Laila, Loretta, Tim (one of my good friends and an ex-flatmate) and I had a very interesting night at the Belgian Beer Cafe. It was the first time that I had met Laila and I think that I might have made a bad impression on her. It wasn’t my fault, but when you get 3 louid extroverts that have very similar senses of humour mayhem does tend to ensue! :) . Loretta, Ruth and I also had a riotous and very funny night in late April when we went to Sydney after dark (a night where a whole heap of Sydney museums, art galleries and places of interest throw their doors open for the night). We also ended up at the Belgian Beer Cafe. This was after spending 1 and a half hours in line at the ABC studios in Ultimo. By the time we had made it to Beer Cafe we had not had dinner and it was 10:30. All of us were delerious with hunger and this meant that there was alot of sillines. Loretta (and her husband Dave) are great value!

Heading up to Ruth’s Mum’s place in Byron tonight and then Ruth is back down here in Melbourne on Monday night for 2 days. She’ll be down her permanently in less than 2 weeks (YAY!!! - for me anyway. i am sure that this will probably not be the case for those in Sydney, but you can come down to Melbourne anytime to visit us).

Hee Hee! It would have put the icing on the cake so to speak if Andrew had been there last night too although I don’t know if the Belgian beer cafe could have handled Loretta and Andrew together in the one place again. It is a riot when that happens! Our museum crawl with Loretta did come up in conversation last night i.e the over-friendly Bananas in Pyjamas at the ABC. People in costume just use it as an excuse to molest people don’t they! I was recently attacked by an over-sized condom in central Melbourne too. :)

Would it help if I whined? At least you are in the same country?? Honestly I can’t wait to get down there to meet all of you. I have decided upon retirement to stay where it is warm most of the time. Old bones need heat you know. So for me it will be winters in OZ and summers in USA. Now if I can just figure out which months they are in each place, I’ll be fine.
