Somerset, Tasmania

Somerser, TasmaniaDriving through the northern coastline of Tasmania as we headed from Launceston to Stanley on Christmas eve last year we came across this particular landscape which forced me to pull over… Most of northern Tasmania is like this but this really caught my attention. Sometime this year I will have my imagery from Tasmania online. The only reason I couldn’t have been able to do it is time… But hopefully soon. As for Somerset it is about 333 kilometers north of Hobart situated on Cam River at the junction of Bass and Murchison Highways. The picture really doesn’t do justice.

Right! But where is Tasmania?

In the Southern hemisphere. Tasmania is the only island state of Australia, below Victoria away from the Australian mainland. Tasmania is also called the ‘Natural state’ because of its renowned wilderness, almost unpolluted air, and its simple and nature friendly people. The capital of Tasmania is Hobart . The Population of the island state was 440,100 as per the Australian Bureau of Statistics [Dec 2003].

So Beautiful. It confirms my desire to visit Tazmania the next time I’m “down under.”

I was pleasantly surprised to see this pic of Somerset, because it is where my ancestors came from in the very picturesque State of Tasmania..
The old house is situated near the junction of the Bass Hwy and Murcheson Hwy, near the Cam River at Somerset.
I have a few photos from surrounding areas that were taken in 1964. Would you like to compare some of these places to what they are like today ? If so please let me know.
I have The Nut , Stanley, Sisters Beach, Boat Harbour, Devonport, Ulverstone, Mt Rowland, and the Mersey Valley area. All are good clear colour photos.
    Cheers, Margaret.
