Southern Cross Gliding

Gliding at CamdenIf you live in Sydney and love flying chances are you would already know about the Southern Cross Gliding Club in Camden. Other than the historic beautiful town of Camden it also hosts a big aerodromme that has 3 seperate flying strips viz. Southern Cross, The Cessna Flying club and the Acrobatics power flight centre — run by some Germans and I don’t remember the name very well. The photo is from my archive of 14th July 2002. It’s been a while I went gliding maybe I should soon :-)

I went flying a few times and have a few photos of by Gliding experience at Camden, Southern Cross. It is a sheer joy to see cloud formations from close quarters or just even to watch the hustle and bustle of the world below with the soft whistle of wind over the wings. My first experience was on board a K-13 in tandem with Paul, the instructor who had been gliding for 38 years!! Now thats something huh! The flight training is of a high standard, all operations, training and safety issues are regulated by the national association — the Gliding Federation of Australia (GFA).

So if you are close to Camden or for that matter even in Sydney go give your wings a little flutter. It is a lifetime experience — surely will lift your spirit! :-)

I remember when you went gliding and took some beautiful pictures. I guess I’m kind of chicken to try.

Don’t be a chicken. Gliding is fun for people of all ages.

My sons (currently 5 and 7) have been gliding with me - the youngest just once (so far) and the oldest has about a dozen flights in his log book.

A few weeks ago, I took a 92 year old woman for a flight - she LOVED it.

    Cheers
