Off to Copacabana

Sunset reflection at Copacabana

Its that time of the year when we head up to Copacabana. Yay! It sure has come around quick and thank God for it :) We may not have perfect clear blue skies but we’ll make up with lots of drinking, lots of laughter, lots of cooking, BBQ, and swim in the ocean. I took these photos last year on my then Canon EOS 40D. Sunsets at Copa are amazing! You’ve got to witness the golden hour with a cocktail or two in hand. Lifes too short. Even shorter on the wrong side of 30 I tell ya!

Rainbow Lorikeet grooming

Rainbow Lorikeet grooming

This was taken a little while back… February this year. We were relaxing up at Copacabana in the middle of this massive summer heat. The place we stayed had had a bit of trees in the backyard which was more like a garden/ cliff and beyond this there was a big drop right into the deep rocky ocean bed. There were lots of birds about resting in the shade and I went poking my head to see them every now and then as one does! :)

Copacabana Sunset Photos

Sunset View of Bensville from Copacabana
Canon EOS 40D, 1/640sec, f/5, 200mm, ISO 640, Bias: 0 EV

Here are some sunset photos shot from Copacabana. The sunset view of Benville just past Macmasters beach from Copacabana is breath-taking. In real life you feel the effect of the grandeur even more with the rolling ocean just under the headland from where we stood watching this mystical orange bathing. The colours keep changing as the orb starts sinking toward the horizon and even though you can’t fully see the sun setting into the horizon it leave the sky in an amazing afterglow…orange, red, vermilion, yellow and the shard of rays that pierce through into the unknown. Thanks to Paul for prompting me about the sunset I had nearly missed it totally absorbed in my wine!

Sometimes staring into nothingness makes a lot of sense.

We are back from an exciting four days at Copacabana. Time just seems to fly by when you’re having fun. surely I’ll have some more photos here soon but until then….

Did you notice the bird flying in the distance? This was shot from the edge of the property we were staying at. Copacabana beach was about an easy 20 meter below this landmass.

I think by now you’d guess it. Its become a bit of a family tradition to go to Copa, Copacabana. Except the lovely D is off to Puerto Vallarta, Mexico for his jet-setting work. Yes, we are staying at the Coco Beach Hut all over again and looking forward to a nice relaxing weekend away with the loved ones. Sad though we are going to miss D this time around. But its is still going to be a lot of fun.

Sunset at Copacabana

Sunset at Copacabana
A quick hurried sunset shot from The Coco Beach Hut, at Copacabana, NSW
Canon EOS 40D, ISO 100, 24mm f/4, 1/250

A quick hurried sunset shot from The Coco Beach Hut before we went out for dinner at Sirocco. Sorry about the ashtray :) No, I don’t really smoke.

A good sunset shot is always very refreshing. The human eye can perceive much more colour depth and dynamic range that any camera ever made. Even though the photo landed up with some blown highlights I still like what I see. The part that I *love* most about this photo is the streaming rays through the trees in the distance — like a firefly chasing the shards of hue.

Copacabana

Her name was Lola, she was a showgirl
With yellow feathers in her hair and a dress cut down to there
She would merengue and do the cha-cha
And while she tried to be a star, Tony always tended bar
Across a crowded floor, they worked from 8 till 4
They were young and they had each other
Who could ask for more?

At the Copa (CO!), Copacabana (Copacabana)
The hottest spot north of Havana (here)
At the Copa (CO!), Copacabana
Music and passion were always the fashion
At the Copa….they fell in love

Copacabana is a suburb located on the Central Coast of New South Wales, Australia, as part of the City of Gosford local government area.
