On to Yarra – Day 1 Part 3

NOTE: Read Part 1 and 2.

The traffic got heavier and slowly most roads started showing a City Link’ or the ‘City’ sign. If we’d lost anchor we’d have headed right back into the city and found our bearings and ventured up the Maroondah highway… with no maps around except for the one Hertz give us which is a one sheet photocopy of a ultra modern roadway that wasn’t to scale and has many roads missing we decided to follow our instincts… while we were trying to get our orientation right and enjoying the semi-residential scantily populated suburbs a car zoomed right past me. The registration number read “QUACK” We giggled! “R-U-D-E-ness” said David…

On to Yarra – Day 1 Part 2

After grabbing our bags from the luggage carousel at Melbourne airport we headed down to Hertz to pick up our hire car… it seemed to take a fair bit of time to organise though. Ah these melbournites are just not that professional are they now? :) The gentleman on the other side of the counter looked a bit worried… hmmm…. wonder what was cooking…..while we oggled at other passengers pick up their luggage, looking at the ceiling, outside, the Hertz representatives wrinkly forehead, the rear of his old windows computer (ughhh!) he made a third (yes I was counting) frantic call. He could hardly keep the glaring secret from his high flying customers anymore. Oh no, he was about to CRY! We reached for our used tissues. He paused and decided to gave away the secret. We were preparing to drop our jaws but the news didn’t suprise us much. Hertz Melbourne had over booked the airport outlet by 60 odd cars! Jolly Good! Splendid! But we got our turn and moved right along to champion a drive in the wet weather. Oh I love singing driving in the rain…

On to Yarra – Day 1 Part1

Getting up in morning is such a hard thing to do. Especially if its like 5:30am and then shower, makeup and look pretty all day. But we did our best and the cab arrived dot at 6:45am to take us to the airport. Virgin Blue counter looked a bit crowded already but one of the ushers moved us right on to the begining of a counter that had opened up just then. Oh nice! We sauntered up and exchanged greetings. He looked at us and said hello with a smile and said… oh must be the Tennis…(they had the tennis in Melbourne last week) David said nah we going to the wineries.
*pause*

12 Apostles – Great Ocean drive

UPDATE: I’ve made a photoset on flickr that would stream some of the images from our trip to Victoria

.

12 Apostles, VictoriaWe are back from a very exciting weekend away in the beautiful state of Victoria — the place to be! Ruth, Ian, Mum, Dad and I went down on Thursday night. We have been craving to visit the 12 Apostles down near Port Campbell, victoria for sometime now. Well, we finally made it! Unfortunately though, after leaving Sydney on Thursday night at about 2:00 am in the morning soon after we passed the small town of Yass in New South Wales our train engine developed problems and failed. Most were fast asleep. Ruth and I couldn’t get much of sleep and were wide awake and chatty. A little later after the taing had been stationary for a while went to see the train guard at about 1:30-ish am in the morning to request if the air-conditioning could be turned down. It was almost as freezing cold inside as outside! This was my first ever XPT ride on Countrylink. Fortunately though Country link arranged for buses to take us down to Melbourne. Once there we hired a car and soon we were off to Geelong, and down to Colac and then on to the most scenic Great Ocean Road. Wow, Victoria is breath taking!
