TeamSite is a CMS produced by Interwoven Inc. And an approximate listing says about 1000 clients across the globe use it for pushing content both within the local Intranets and different extranets worldwide. Most sites that talk about Content Management process and architecture like CMSwatch.com, www.cmsmatrix.org and Oscom hold TeamSite in high esteem. But I have always been skeptic about it because I haven’t seen a single site deliver clean, valid code! As a website developer, designer and website consultant I am very pedantic about valid, clean and semantically correct code. But my view about TeamSite changed since David, Ruth and I started working on building a Template for a website.
We generated a few pages after having built the Content Entry Form followed by the Presentation Template. The HTML layout of the pages are in tags as this site was built sometime back. But TeamSite did prove that it produces valid code. So contrary to a lot of myth TeamSite does produce Valid code!

I see your next question coming, so here goes:
Why use Teamsite as your enterprise CMS?
Interwoven TeamSite is a powerful content management application designed to empower non-technical and technical staff to manage Web site content and metadata. It can be modelled around business processes to effectively deliver content using the Web.
In a nut shell TeamSite does some things extremely well in comarision to most CMS software out there today:
- Multiple Branching
- Virtualisation
- Robust Search
- Whole Site Versioning
- Comprehensive File Versioning
- Easy Templating
- Advanced Metadata Support
- Tools Compatibility
- Automated Advanced Workflows
- Multi-Lingual Support

You’re right Amit!!
I think the reason why so many sites that come from TeamSite do not adhere to standards is because there are so many silly TeamSite developers who don’t know a things about proper standards!
great Blog!

Amit,
TeamSite itself does not produces clean code — it’s human beings who create presentation templates. If a presentation template (an analog of a XSL stylesheet) has clean code, the output will be clean, the opposite is also true

We use teamsite for all our website publishing… are in the process of upgrading to 6.5 .. does anyone know if there’s a way to get LaunchPad to function with Firefox? I just hate using IE more than I have to - thanks -Paul
yeah 6.5 does work with firefox quite well and no more pop up window for launch pad etc. as it’s all self contained in one browser window. Have not had luck running visual format in firefox yet but i think it’s me.
Visual Format is not supported in Firefox. I heard that the new version of Ektron editor, if downloaded from http://www.ektron.com, will do the thrick. This is not supported by Interwoven either.
I have recently adopted a free rich editor for TeamSite, so it works on Macs as well. Amit actually has been helping me kindly, as I did not have a Mac to try my stuff on…..
hi,
I have an issue using Visual Format in TeamSite. The issue is not really with the editor, but i am looking for the option not to overwrite whatever i have enrtered in the editor.
Following is the issue:
I am trying to enter a foreign char like “é” and VFE converts that to “é”, but i want this to be a ASCII convcersion like “é” even if i use that ASCII value it is being convereted to “é”. I have an issue using this in the generated file.
Is there a way i can tell the editor not to convert by escaping it or some other means.
