It was about six in the evening when we walked back in the Boathouse Restaurant… the place was immaculately set and looked very nice. In the short time between the wedding and the reception, you’d remember me mentioning the sun being out followed by the promising rainbow — but by this time it was raining again. It started off with a light drizzle and kept alternating between heavy and light pours. We were inside chatting, congratulating, jubilating and having a good time… it was fun to meet so many of Ruth’s childhood friends and their partners some of whom I had met earlier in Sydney. Loretta & David, Katie & Gavin, Nick, Laila, Rebecca, John, Jake… the list continues. We got to meet a whole new circle of her childhood friends and Andrews family and some of his friends too.

At dinner, we were seated right next to the bride and grooms table.. oh the honour. And having Fiona sitting next to me was naughty idea but a very good one I must admit!! We laughed so much and some of Ruths childhood stories came out under the spell of the euphoric ambiance and alcohol… I won’t go into those gory details but they were funny and we were often in stitches. We were having a blast. Caitlin on the other hand had her share of funny stories. Ah good old alma mater…

Ian gave a lovely speech reminiscing the time when he and Ruth shared a flat in Sydney’s inner-west — Annadale, and of one particular night of interest when Ruth came home drunk and got in through the window… hilarious stuff! and then he went on to mention how he had an inkling about Ruth’s love interest and those secret phone call and hours of chats and periodic bursts of laughter. Lovely speech indeed Ian (in case you are reading this). Andrew’s brother Stuart followed Ian’s and was a very nice speech wishing them abundance and happiness and lot of happiness followed by the newly married couple.

Soon it was party time — Ruth and Andrew took to the dance floor and in a few mintues everyone joined in. Bubaliscious, aka Bub aka Rose aka Rosemary aka Ruth’s mum along with her family from New Zealand joined in with the tradition Haka — a hearty welcome to the Mihulkas the Kiwi way. It was such a night to remember!
Congratulations to you both Ruth and Andrew and thank you for inviting us and for having the honour of reading on your very special day. We wish you both the very best and lots of joy and happiness for the future.
