DrawIT or Lineform

Thursday, January 17th, 2008

I do have a copy of Adobe Illustrator and Adobe Fireworks on my mac which gets used every now and then but I’d still like to use a lightweight vector app that does quick easy draws on demand. To that end 2 worthy vector apps stand out: Lineform from Freeverse or DrawIT by Pieter Omvlee.

Speed up your Mail with Speedmail

Tuesday, January 15th, 2008

I like to deal with my mail as it arrives and depending on priority and response deal with the reply or stow away for later or just simple trash it.

a screengrab of my inbox

In other words I’m more or less diligent with keeping my Inbox clean and tidy and therefore one would hope simple and lightweight. It give me sense of achievement and quite literally peace of mind when my Inbox has less than 5 mails. But overtime every mailbox grows and therefore gets sluggish. Well, if you’re on Mac (Tiger or Leopard) there is a free nifty little program that does an amazing little trick of optimising your mail. Its called SpeedMail. It compresses the Mail SQL database and restores Apple Mail to new life and did I say its free!

Download Speedmail here and give it a try.

Leopard Mac OS arrives

Friday, October 26th, 2007

So excited about this… Its 7:30am Australian Eastern Standard Time and our copy of Leopard Mac OS 10.5 has arrived… its not even the 26th in the United States yet ;-P (sorry had to throw that in) ha ha :)

The packaging is awesome… and yes I’ll write more about it soon. Stay tuned… and leave your comments

UPDATE: Leopard is rocking my world at the moment. Its truly awesome. Installation + migration took less than 90 minutes and everything seems to work perfectly. Gosh you need to see how meticulously thought out this version of the Operating System is!! That being said it will tak eme a while to start using Finder again as I’m a Path Finder boy.

I want the revolutionary iPhone

Thursday, January 11th, 2007

iPhone…real bad :) Better still I could grab one when we’re in the US in a few months time but will it be compatible in Australia? Am guessing the short answer for now is NO. But it will be in the near future. The internets abuzz with iPhone. I’d rather not bore you with my analysis of it as a lot is being said about it even as I type this now…. almost half a day after the announcement was made by Steve Jobs. What a revolutionary idea. Wow another blow to a hundred odd Mobile handset makers out there! Well done Steve.

Ordered a macbook!

Tuesday, October 24th, 2006

YAY, the day started on a bright note. Hopefully not too long before I get my macbook so I can write ‘gushing’ blogs… :) and get on with my life… Windows is hideous. Its nasty! Repeat after me. 5 times. (Nasty!)5 … Soon I’ll have my sanity back. David’s cooking some yummy suprise dinner for which he had to go somewhere special to get all the ingredients… yumm food (rolls belly)… and then we’re headed off to see Toni Collette, in Little Miss Sunshine with chocotop in hand. Damn! I just dribbled! *Wipes drool*…

PowerBook in Mac heaven. RIP

Thursday, October 19th, 2006

Over the last few years… I have used my mac to the fullest… at least 15 hours a day most days, if not more… dragged it through the dry arid Death Valley in Nevada, to the chilling snows of Yosemite, a few road trips, outings, roughly 16 flights and about 5 of those where I couldn’t take it on board with me (American Eagle, and United flights)… everyday to work and back, on the train, the bus, the beach, the mountains… its gone with me almost everywhere. And now… after all these loving tender moments… the Toshiba HardDrive that Apple used for my PowerBook wouldn’t mount. It has what is technically called: a S.M.A.R.T. failure… after I ran my last program Onyx!

mac-a-dee

Wednesday, July 21st, 2004

I finally bought my much awaited 17″ PowerBook. It is truly an amazing piece of technology. This is my first posting on mac platform. Eating a humble pie here: I now think a bit more about websites working properly on Macintosh, but I tell you this, Safari works at the speed of light. I have only got 512MB of RAM and have a few applications open yet I don’t hear the HDD churning, nor do applications hang, and all of this as I even watch quicktime trailers off the apple site… sweet as!

The big move ahead - win to mac

Sunday, July 18th, 2004

I am getting ready for a big move in a matter of few days to a week or two… I would be switching platforms. Mac OS here I come. After long discernment and weighing out my options I have made this decision and am really looking forward to this move. Perhaps the only thing that is taking time is the purchase. Wish they were cheaper! My eyes are more or less fixed on the Powerbook 17″/1.5Gz with 128MB Graphic Memory and 5400 rpm ultra ATA drive. To start with I would only have the 512MB RAM but will max it out in a few weeks hopefully.
