Surely its been a long few days at work and home. Catching up on pending chores never seem to end… but its Thursday evening and the weekend is just around the corner and been out quite a few nights soaking up every gay movie in town given the Mardi Gras Film Festival is on. So I can’t really complaint.

“A hundredth of a second here, a hundredth of a second there — even if you put them end to end, they still only add up to one, two, perhaps three seconds, snatched from eternity.”
- Robert Doisneau

Although its not as hot as it was yeterday but fresh spot fires in west Pymble, north Turramurra, south Berowra, and parts of Mount Ku-rin-gai played havoc stashing away 900 hectares of bushland! Fortunately there hasn’t been any property damage. F3 has been paralysed most of today and the Pacific Highway has been closed off and on and at times the traffic queue has been as long as 10 kilometers long!! There were fewer trains between Sydney and Newcastle. There were lots of birds out, surely more than normal and a big Iguana on Arthur Street… the cabby almost ran over it… it was roughly a meter long. Wish I had my camera handy.
The temperature in Hornsby reached a sweltering 41°C soon after midday. Extremely hot and sultry!! Unbearable! Luckily most knew it was going to be a hot day and were prepared. But no one was prepared for the bushfires right down here so close at Mount Ku-ring-gai. The scary bit… I am not too far from Mount Ku-ring-gai Chase and given the bushfires have been burning for a while it *does* worry me. Good news though, the fire crews and the water bombing helicopters are on the thankless task and doing the best they can. There doesn’t seem to be any threat to property now but it still feels a bit uneasy. A little price one has to pay living this close to the National Park I suppose. Well least you’d know if there were no updates made on this site I might have gone up in flames lured by the devils firely charm.

As photographer for the sophisticated Home magazine, Harold Cazneaux produced some very extraordinary catalogue of Sydney style in the 1920s and 30s.
From the Art Deco skyscrapers of the city centre to images of modern home design and interiors, Cazneaux depicted all that was fashionable and new and strikingly modern and glamorous.
Time flies by way too quick when you’re having fun. Things have been generally rather busy the last few weeks and that explains it all. I have still not finished my vietnam gallery and have had to keep my all chores aside until I finish my two current side-projects(yes exciting). Here’s hoping I’ll talk about it soon. Oh a lot of things happened in the past few weeks where do I start…. of the things that I can remember.. watched Superman Returns, bought Aperture, watched Wah-Wah, Maxine turned 4Ø, High School Musical, caught up with Ruth and Andrew lost a game of scrabble with Nick, David cooked an absolute divine home made boscaiola, had lovely Indian food at the Malabar, slow cooked ribs at the Balmoral Bathers, fascinating garlic prawns at Miros on Liverpool, scrumptious breakfasts at the Avenue and Xenos, dinner at the Austrian Schnitzelhaus, wait no, its not all about food… but thats all I can remember… after all I am nothing but my inner me… oh and copious amounts of red. Life is hard… but I’ll come around before you know.
They went with songs to battle,
They were young,
Straight of limb, true of eye
Steady and aglow.
They were staunch to the end
against odds uncounted;
They fell with their faces to the foe.
They shall not grow old,
as we who are left grow old;
Age shall not weary them
nor the years condemn.
At the going down of the sun
and in the morning
We will remember them.
Adrian, Richard, David and I went down to the Rose Seidler House which was built between 1948 and 1950. It is one of the most uncompromising modernist houses in Australia. Nestled in natural bushland of Ku-Ring-Gai Chase, with great view from its glass walls and sun filled deck. We took a few photos around the place. Considering this house was designed and built in 1948 it is very modern and extremely well lit. If you visit Sydney and have similar interests I’d recommend visiting the Rose Seidler House.
I joined back at work today… I had been pottering around at home yesterday except that David and I had a lovely breakfast at Mosman and an awesome dinner at the All India Restaurant in Balmain with Honyea the night before… It was nice coming back to work an meeting friends and colleages and as I had forgotten to mention I was going to be away at the Café I usually go to, so they all went Aamiiiiiiit where have you been? (well almost). And that gave me the chance to rave on about the snow and the dizzying altitudes of Yosemite, the bears of High Sierra that eat your snacks and drive away in your car(should you leave the keys in), the grilled quesadilla dinner with Cate Blachette’s neighbour from Hunters Hill, the southern accent the Golden Gate bridge, shopping at Lord and Taylor in Chicago’s prestigious magnificient Mile and twilight supper at Ritz Carlton… Later in the morning Paul organised morning tea for me and Nita who got a promotion in the company. That was really nice and thoughtful. What can I say I am spoilt rotten. People have been saying I look rested and well, now that is a bit of a worry, does that somehow mean I look haggard before my sojourn? I need more anti-aging creams! Now there is a whole lot of catching up to be done with friends and colleagues, it is kind of embarassing to get all this attention but at the same time it shows that people care and that is a very comforting. Alright, enough said, my lunch break is almost finishing, time to lap up some hot curry and soak up some sun in the park. Oh I have missed curries and latte! I am sure I’d make up for it soon though.
I got back from my three weeks long holiday in the US yesterday and God I loved it so much. Would go back there in a flip! In a nut shell, I went through San Francisco, Washington Dulles, the triangle of Raleigh, Durham, Chapel Hill, Pollocksville, Maysville, New Bern, Kinston, Chicago, Memphis, Austin(Texas), flew over the Grand Canyon, onto Las Vegas, Death Valley, Ridgecrest, Fresno, Bakersfield, Oakhurst, meandering criss-crosses on the Merced river a bit of the High Sierra of the Southern Sequoia National Park, Wowona, Yosemite, the Tolumne grooves onto Manteca, Tracy and then the gorgeous San Francisco. Normal life will resume soon and I hope to put up some images and snippets of my travel soon-ish. In the 19 days I travelled through 7 states. No jetlag going in or coming back. Not bad huh? Not to mention the lovely people I met during my travel.

Travel is on the cards this weekend… *rolls tummy*… my tummy says it would be down south from Sydney into the victorian wineries… hmmm sounds lovely…
I’ve have been looking for a rental unit in lower north shore for a while now. I am a bit over Hornsby(though I kinda love the greenery and the bushland shire feel it has to offer — my weakness), will give you that Russ… and I’m dead bored here so am trying to move out of this place. But its not always easy to find a place even if for a short time… Far worse none of the ads in papers or on the internet EVER tell you if they take pets which means you have to call them or find out when you visit…
Glorious weekend. I should have posted this on the weekend of the 26th November 2005 — but as you know I have a job to keep, a cat to feed, brush, bathe, walk, my inner man to please and a lot more exciting things that are not meant for you unless you are happen in the elite ‘puff’ club of the far north shore and no they are not web related either. Schade! Which also means I cannot tag them with technorati much really. And then I keep thinking to myself should I write about ‘em at all, chances are I’d get stalked like a friend of ours did a few weeks back… and now with the trees from my neighbours gone they could literally peep in and see me sleeping in my birthday suit with a pussy on my new summery sheets, scary!
David and I had the pleasure of watching the exclusive advanced screening of the 2005 Cannes Film Festival, written and directed by Christian Carion — Joyeux Noël which was a courtesy of ABC Classic FM. Joseph Hocking the Marketing Manager made the introductory speech before the movie was screened. I was hoping to see Julia Lester in flesh and blood too but she was on air and therefore couldn’t make it to the show. Passionate, bold, poignant, humane, extraordinaire are just a few thoughts that run through my mind thinking of last night. It was truly a moment of humanity that made history. A touching depiction of an extraordinary act of humanity. If I were to pick the two most impacting passions that lived right through the movie they would simply be brevity and respect for fellow human beings.
